Pulse
When the left ventricle of the heart contracts, blood is forcefully squeezed out of the chamber and into the systemic circulation, causing a pressure wave to occur in the arteries. This pressure wave causes the arterial walls to briefly expand and the recoil, forcing blood through the arteries.

assesses level of consciousness based upon how the pt. responds to the environment and external stimuli.
