Vectors

Numbers that have magnitude and direction (displacement, velocity, acceleration and force)

Scalars

Numbers that only have a magnitude associated with them (speed, distance, energy, pressure and mass)

Vector addition

Sum of two or more vectors is a resultant

To find the sum of two or more vectors place them tip to tail

To find vector components use trig

X component = Vcosθ

Y component = Vsin θ

If X and Y are known V can be calculated using the Pythagorean theorem

Displacement

change in position in space

does not account for pathway taken between initial and final position

Distance

Scalar quantity that considers the pathway taken

Velocity

Vector quantity measures rate of change of displacement over time and is necessarily the same direction as the displacement vector
