Stages of Freuds Psychosocial development


Stage 1: 0-1 years old


- gratification found by putting objects in mouth (libidinal energy = centered on mouth)




Stage 2: 1-3 years old


- Anal stage: libido is centered here and gratification is through elimination or retention of waste materials




Stage 3: 3-5 years old


- Phalic/Oedipal Stage: where oedipal conflict (male) or Electra conflict (female) involves envious relationships between the intimate relationship between their parents


- results in sublimating of the libidinal energy and initiating the latency stage.




Genital Stage: puberty - adult hood


- entrance into healthy heterosexual relationships
