W= F x ___
D (Work = Force x Distance)
___= F x D
W (Work = Force x Distance)
A = FV - SV
________
?
time
Acceleration = final velocity - starting velocity divided by time it takes to change velocity.
___ = W
____
T
P (Power = Work
______
time
F = M x ____
A (Force = Mass x Acceleration)
A = F
____

M = F
_____
?
A Mass = Force
______
Acceleration
Describe Newton's 1st Law of Motion
An object at rest, remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion; unless acted upon by an outside force. Give example
Describe Newton's 2nd Law of Motion
The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied. Give example
Describe Newton's 3rd Law of Motion
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Give example
Friction
Friction occurs because the surface of any object is rough. When the hills and valleys of one surgace stick to the hills and valleys of another, friction is created. Rougher surfaces create more friction.
Gravity
Gravity is a force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses.
What it means to work
To get a job done using energy.(work occurs when a force causes an object to move in the direction of the force) Example throwing a ball
- work is done on an object only when force makes that object move.
Examples of simple machines and why they help make work better.
They make work easier - lever, inclined plane, wedge, screw, wheel & axle, pulley
List examples of each -
lever, inclined plane, wedge, screw, wheel and axle, pulley
lever - screwdriver, end of hammer to remove a nail, inclined plane - ramp, wedge - knife, screw - screw, wheel and axle- door knob, pulley - cord on window blind.
Force
a push or a pull. All forces have both size and direction. Scientist express force using a unit called the newton (n) The more newtons the greater the force.
Work
The action that results when a force causes an object to move in the direction of the force.
lever
A simple machine consisting of a bar that pivots at a fixed point, called a fulcrum. There are 3 classes of levers.
M/S/S
Acceleration is expressed in meters per second per second
Joule
The unit used to express work and energy equivalent to the newton-meter.
Speed
The rate at which an object moves. Speed depends on the distance traveled and the time taken to travel that distance.
Average Speed = Total distance
______________
Total time
Newton
Scientists express force using a unit called Newton(N) the SI unit of force
Screw
A light bulb
Acceleration
is the rate at which velocity changes
Acceleration = final velocity-starting velocity divided by time it takes to change velocity.
Watts
(W)The unit used to express power; equivalent to joules per second (j/s)
Wheel and axle
a simple machine consisting of two circular objects of different sizes; the wheel is the larger of the two circular objects.
mass
The amount of matter that something is made of.
inclined plane
a simple machine that is a straight, slanted surface.
a ramp, water slide
inertia
the tendency of all objects to resist any change in motion.
