When adding two numbers of the same sign (-2+-2)
add the absolute values (2+2=4)
use the common sign in the answer -2+-2=-4

Adding two numbers with different signs -3+1
find the DIFFERENCE between the larger absolute value and the smaller absolute value.
Use the sign from the number with the larger absolute value eg -3+1=-2

Subtracting two signed numbers eg. -3-(-2)
rewrite the number as adding the first number to the opposite of the second number (-3+2)
