Terms of a Fraction

Numerator of a Fraction
Top number in a common fraction. Represents number of equal parts shaded.
Denominator of a Fraction
Bottom number in a common fraction. Think "D for Denominator and Down" Represents number of equal parts in total that the unit has been divided into.
Unit Fraction
A number whose numerator is one and whose denominator is a counting number is called a unit fraction.
Use of a Fraction
A fraction can be used to represent one or more of the equal parts into which a whole has been divided.
Solving a fraction
To solve a fraction, divide the numerator by the denominator. Why? A fraction can be used to represent the division of one number by another non-zero number.
Use of Fraction - Comparison
