A product of equal factors

Ex. 5 to the 3rd power is 5*5*5
Base of a power...
The number that is used as a factor.

Ex. in 3 to the power of 5 3 is the base
Exponent...
In a power, the number that indicates how many times the base is used as a factor is the exponent.

Ex. 3 is the exponent in 4 to the 3rd power
Exponential Form...
The expression 4 is the exponential form of 4*4*4*4*4
Degree of a variable in a monomial...
The number of times that the variable occurs as a factor in a monomial.

Ex. in 4x y the degree of x is 3 and the degree of y is 6
Degree of a monomial....
The sum of the degrees of its variables.

Ex. the degree of 4x y n is 12
Degree of a polynomial....
The greatest of the degrees of its terms after it has been simplified.

Ex. 4x +3y -2x +7x y can be simplified to 9x +4y which means the degree is 5.
Monomial...
An expression that is either a numeral, a variable, or the product of a numeral and one or more variables.

Ex. 23, x, 4n, 3yx, 7x y n
Coefficient.............
In the monomial 7x y, 7 is the coefficient
Similar, or like, terms....
Two monomials that are exactly alike or the same except for their numeral coefficient.

Ex. 23x and 17x
Constant monomial or constant.......
A numeral.

Ex. such as 3
Polynomial....
A sum of monomials.

Ex. 2x+6y+n+x-7y
Binomial....
A polynomial of only two terms.

Ex. 4x+7
Trinomial....
A polynomial of only three terms.

Ex. 9x+6y+x
Simplified form or simplest form of a polynomial.......
A polynomial which has no two of its terms similar.

Ex. 7x+6y+8n+3
