Percentages to decimal
Divide the percentage by 100

e.g 54% ÷ 100 = 0.54
Decimal to percentage
Multiply the decimal by 100

e.g 0.67 x 100= 67%
Fraction to Percentage
Multiply the fraction by 100

e.g ½ × 100 = 0.50%
Percentages to Fractions
Divide percentage by 100 then simplify if possible

e.g 60% ÷ 100 = 60/100
= 3/5
Scientific Notation
Scientific notation is writing significant and smaller numbers in a shorter form.

Irrational Numbers
Numbers that can be written as a decimal but not as a fraction because it has endless non-repeating digits to the right of a decimal point
Numbers that can be written as a decimal but not as a fraction because it has endless non-repeating digits to the right of a decimal point
Rational Numbers
A rational number is a number that can be written as a ratio or as a fraction (numerator & denominator are whole numbers)

e.g
8/1 , 3/4 , 1/2
Significant Figures
Rounds to get important digits of a number

e.g Round to 4 significant figures
a) 389764
=389800
Percentage of a Quantity
Divide the Percentage by 100 then multiply by the quantity

e.g. Find 15% of $8
15% × 8 = 15 ÷ 100 × 8
= $1.20
Percentage Increase
Multiply the amount by the percentage plus 100%

e.g. Increase $80 by 15%
$80 x 115 % = $92
Unitary Method
Can be used with fractions, percentages and ratios
The unitary method involves finding the value of one part or item when given the value of
several parts or items.

e.g
1 If 3/4 of a number is 81, what is the number?

Solution
3/4 of the number = 81
∴ 1/4 of the number = 81 ÷ 3 = 27
∴ 4/4 of the number = 27 × 4 = 108
The number is 108

Profit Percentage
Subtract the selling price from the original price, then divide that answer by the original price and multiply by 100%

e.g Jason buys a Cd player for $250 and sells it for $525. Find the profit percentage.

$425-$250=$175
175/200 x 100% = 70%
Percentage Decrease
Multiply the amount by 100% minus the percentage

e.g decrease $80 by 15%
$80 x 55%=$68
