What is the danzon and when and where did it evolve?
The danzon was one of the first typiacal Cuban styles that had its own individual rhythm and bass line. It evolved in Matanzas, Cuba in 1879. It was an evolution of the contrandanza francesa and the danza cubana.
What other rhythm did the danzon mix with? What is the significance of this mixture?
The danzon mixed with the son oriental. This was significant because this mixture enriched the other styles when integrated into the accompaniment forms that were present prior to the son and danzon.
