Yellow jacket The first stage of a harp seals life is called a yellow jacket. A newborn pup is called a yellow jacket because of its tinted yellow fur. |

White-coat After a few days they become a white-coat, this means they have a thick, fluffy white coat that protects them from the harshest weather. |

Ragged Jacket At two weeks old they become a ragged jacket. The pups now start to mount in small patches, revealing a silvery-grey coat dotted with blackish spots. They're now becoming more adventurous and are learning to swim, and can now find some food on their own. |

4th=Beater The next stage happens after approximately 18 days, and is called a beater. This means they practice swimming by beating things with their front flippers. 5th=Bedlamer The fifth stage of a harp seals life is cross between a child and teen. This is called a bedlamer. |

Adult Then they finally become an adult, females at 6-7 years and males at 7-8 years. Then the cycle starts all over again with their pups. |
