What is Compression in Engine?

Piston moves to top dead center to compressed air fuel mixture to be able to produce combustion.

Compare Diesel and Gasoline Engine

Diesel engine has fuel injector that uses diesel, of which air is compressed first before fuel is injected nearly expansion stroke, while Gasoline Engine uses spark plug of which air-fuel mixture is done upon entering into comustion chamber through intake port. Diesel is widely used because of its low cost fuel, but gasoline is eco friendly less noise and vibration.

What is your appreciation when entering Enclosed spaces?

We must have the permit from the master or chief engineer before performing an operation, it should be properly planned of what task shall be done, and always bring safety before entering such wearing personal safety equipments and/or checking the oxygen content of area.

Explain the Classes of fire and what type of extinguisher should be use.

Class A refers to solid combistible materials such as rugs, woods and paper, it can be extinguish by water, foam, dry powder and wet chemical.

Class B refers to combustible liquid and gas, such as methane, LPG, paint and kerosine, it can be extinguish by foam, dry powder and C o 2.

Class C fires refers to Electrical equipment such as fuse, circuit breaker, motor and electrical wires, it can be extinguish by dry powder and C o 2.

Class D refers to combistible metal such as Titanium, Magnesium, Potassium and Sodium, it can be extinguish by dry powder.

Class K fire refers to Cooking oil, it can be extinguish by Wet chemical for extremely high temperature.

What is ISMR? What are the three objectives of ISM Code?

ISMR or International for Safety Management (for rating) is to provide international safe management and operation of the ships and pollution prevention, thus giving its Three main objectives, to ensure the safety at sea, prevention of human injury or loss of life and avoidance of damage to the Environment, in particular to Marine environment and to property.

Explain MARPOL and its annexes.

Marpol or Marine Pollution is an International Convention for the prevention of pollution from ships, provides to completely eliminate pollution by oil and other harmful substances and to minimize accidental spillage of such substances.

Annex 1 refers to regulation for the prevention of pollution by oil (October 2, 1983)

Annex 2 refers to regulation for the control of pollution by noxious liquid substances in bulk (April 6, 1987)

Annex 3 refers to regulation for the prevention of pollution by harmful substances carried by sea in packaged form (July 1, 1992)

Annex 4 refers to regulation for the prevention of pollution by sewage from ships (September 27, 2003)

Annex 5 refers to regulation for the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships (December 31, 1988)

Annex 6 refers to regulation for the prevention of pollution by air from ships ( May 19, 2005)

What is ISPS? Explain its 3 Level of Security.

ISPS Code or International Ship and Port Facility Security Code, refers to the applies to all international voyages including Passenger Ships, Ships over 500 Gross Tonnage and Port Facilities.

Security Level 1 refers to security for normal operations of Port facility and Ships, Color Yellow.

Security Level 2 refers to heightened risk of security incidents. Color Orange

Security Level 3 refers to exceptional risk of security incidents. Color Red

What is your first action when there is Man Over Board?

When there is M.O.B, first, we must Yell "Man Over Board" then thrown life buoy into the victims, it also serves to position the victim. Then, inform the bridge, and post extra lookouts to the victims. You can use wistle to notice easily.

Explain the difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine.

2 Stroke engine has 1 revolution of the crankshaft to complete 1 cycle. It is less maintenance because of its simple and cheaper design, it has greater power but less fuel efficient, produces unpleasant smell, noisy and less longer lasting than 4 stroke engine.

4 stroke engine has 2 revolution of the crankshaft to complete 1 cycle. It has more maintenance because of its complex and higher cost design. It has less power but fuel efficient, eco friendly engine and it can last longer than 2 stroke engine.

What is IMO? State Four Pillars of IMO quickly.

IMO or International Maritime Organization is an international maritime law and special agency of United Nations that responsible for measures, to improve the safety and security of international shipping, and to prevent marine pollutions from ships.

Four pillars of IMO are:

1. SOLAS 74 ( Safety of Life at Sea)

2. Marpol 73/78 ( Marine Pollution)

3. MLC 2006 ( Maritime Labor Convention or Seafarer's Bill of Rights)

4. STCW 78/84 ( Standards of Training, Certificates and Watchkeeping)

What is Marine Engineering?

Marine Engineering is a branch of study that deals with the development, design, construction, maintenance and operation of the ships at sea.

What is Marine Engineer?

Marine Engineer is a professional who is responsible of performing the acquired skills and knowledge in Marine Engineering such development, operation, maintenance and repair onboardship.

What is Safety?

Safety is the top most rule to be followed in order to free from danger or any kind of risk, and it is the best tool in working onboard.

What is Fire? What are its elements?

Fire is a rapid oxidation of a material through combustion process. Its elements are Heat, Oxygen and Fuel also known as Fire triangle.

What is Combustion?

Combustion is a process by which the heat, fuel and oxygen creates chemical reaction.

Explain 2 stroke and four stroke Process.

Explain Boiler?

Boiler is an enclosed space filled with water then heated to produce steam that is use to run turbine in order to be prime mover such it can be use to run propeller and generator.
