What are the three types of Cannabis plants?
C. Sativa= the main species that grows as weed in NA.
C. Indica= grown for its psychoactive resins.
C. Ruderalis= grown mainly in Russia
What is THC?
- the primary psychoactive agent of marijuana.
- concentrated in resin, the more resin, the higher the potency
- charas is the most potent preperation 3-20% THC
- ganja- second most potent, creates marijuana known as sinsemilla, contains 7-12% THC
- bhang- low grade marijuana, 1 % THC

What is charas?
- the most potent preperation of the cannabis plant.
- contains pure resin.
- Hashish, similar to charas.

- followed the regulations of the Harrison Act of 1914 by simply taxing anything to do with selling, growing, buying, etc of the cannibis plant making it almost impossible for anyone to deal the plant.

- the 66 chemicals that make the Cannabis plant unique.
- one of them is THC which was synthesized in 1964
What happens when Marijuana is smoked?
- it is absorbed rapidly by the blood and travels to the brain and to the rest of the body. effects begin 5 to 10 minutes after smoked. THC leaves the brain after 30 minutes usually.
What happens when taken orally?
- THC is absorbed much slower and has to be converted to another form of THC which means less of it reaches the brain. effects being 90 minutes after takin.
What is anandamide?
- natural endogenous substance that occurs in the body that has marijuana like effects

CB1- found primarily in the brain, different regions possess different amounts of CB1 receptors throughout the brain.
CB2- found mainly outside the brain

- signs of abuse have been shown
- smoking THC is higher abuse potential then does orally taking it.

- euphoria, "high", mellowness, hunger and stimulation.
- regular smokers can distinguish between real and placebo effects of marijuana.
