Polk and Santa Anna sign. it says to cease fire, which am pays mex 15 million to go through with, and we get tx and Oregon. Polk says he'll make mex there into am citizens (which they didn't want)

Wilmot proviso

states that all new territories from the mex session will be free. (any southern state isn't gonna sign this but all northern States except one do.) this is where the compromise of 1850 comes in. it never became federal law. make sure u kno that this Makes the southerners feel bad

he first sent soldiers to mex territory just to sit there, as a threat. he was waiting for Mexico to attack first. he also sent a letter to congress trying to persuade them to go to war with mex.
