Describe the physics of flowmeters at low flows
Flowmeter acts like a tube, flow is laminar, and viscosity determines flow (Poiseuilles law)
Describe the physics of flowmeters at high flows
Flowmeter acts like an orifice, flow is turbulent and density determines flow (Graham's Law) [like why they use heliox - decreased density => higher flow when flow is turbulent]
At high altitudes, how do flowmeters respond?
actual flow is > than indicated flow
In a hyperbaric chamber, how do flowmeters respond?
actual flow is < than indicated flow
What should be done before pipeline or cylinder gas is connected?
All flowmeters should be turned off.
Are the flowmeters interchangable, or gas-specific?
Gas specific
Describe the O2 knob
Larger and serrated
Where is the O2 flowmeter located?
Always on the right side, downstream of other gasses in the manifold.
How much more accurate are the electronic flowmeters?
5-10x
How is O2 concentration at the common gas outlet calculated?
O2 LPM/Total gas flow LPM = %O2
What is minimum O2 flow?
On older machines, 250 ml O2 enters flowmeter when machine is turned on but flowmeter is still closed. Only w/ N2O, not air.
