Calculating Staffing Requirements
•After determing the # of hours required to complete a task, must then calculate the # of FTE’s (Full Time Equivalents employed needed)

•One FTE = 40 hours/week

•40 hrs/week x 52 weeks = 2080 hrs/year
-Formula = work standard = 24 minutes to code chart
Volume per day = 30 charts to code
30 charts x 24 minutes = 720 minutes needed per day
One FTE = 6.5 or 390 minutes productive per day.

*720 ÷ 390 = 1.8 FTE’s needed to process 30 discharges per day.
