Reticulocyte count
measure of effective erythropoiesis
You must correct Reticulocyte count for the degree of anemia. What is the equation?
Corrected reticulocyte count = Hct/45 * reticulocyte count
A normal (corrected) reticulocyte count?
greater than or equal to 3% = good BM response
less than 3% = poor response.
Polychromasia
younger rbc than reticulocytes. If seen in peripheral blood than the BM is really pushing out these cells.

takes 2-3 days to become mature rbc
Polychromatic RBC also have RNA filaments so will be included in the reticulocyte count.

How do you correct for this?
you divide the corrected reticulocyte count by 2.
