Cautions to the family life cycle perspective: |

Who proposed the initial Family Life Cycle framework? |
Evelyn Duvall and Rueben Hill |
The family life cycle doesn’t fit all types of families perfectly, it is beneficial because: |

Vertical stressor: |

Main critiques of family stage model: |
It is descriptive, not explanatory Only relevant to in tact families (becoming less relevant) This is a linear model, family life is more like a spiral with events that pull families closer (centripetal periods) and further ( centrifugal periods) Biased in that it only attends to a single generation Stages do not go in order, it doesn’t apply to many families now Assumes function of family is procreation |
