Lundberg A wave

Most severe, plateau wave; abrupt, 20-100 mmHg, up to 20 minutes

Lundberg B wave

Less severe; brief, 20 -50 mmHg, 0.5-2 minutes

Lundberg C wave

Benign, rhythmic short spikes, less than 20 mmHg

Methods of decreasing ICP

Head elevation & neutral position; hyperventilation PaCO2 30-35 mmHg; Mannitol, 0.25-0.5 gram /kg; hypertonic saline 1-2 mL/kg of 3% NaCl, goal: 145-155mEq/L; diuretics; anesthetics with cerebrovasoconstricting properties; CSF drain; surgical decompression

Mannitol

0.25-0.5 gram/kg; contraindicated serum osmolarity > 320 mOsm/L

Hypertonic saline

1- 2 ml /kg 3% NaCl, goal Na 145-155 mEq/L; 160mEq/L, cardiac dysfunction, pulmonary edema, seizure, renal injury
