Internal Obturator
Laterally rotates the thigh and extends and abducts the thigh when it is flexed.
External Obturator
Laterally rotates the thigh along with both the superior and inferior gemellus.
Piriformis
Laterally abducts, rotates, and extends the thigh.
Quadratus Femoris
Flexes and extends the leg in addition to laterally rotating the thigh.
Gluteals
Thigh and upper leg muscles located in the back or rear area of the body.
Gluteus Minimus and Medius
Abducts and rotates the thigh.
The Adductors
Third group that includes the longus, brevis, and magnus which draw back the thighs after abduction.
Gracilis
Flexes and adducts the leg as well as adducting the thigh.
Quadriceps Femoris
Group of muscles in the lower leg that includes the vastus, lateralis, medialis, and intermedius, all of which work to extend the leg.

Flexes the thigh and extends the leg.
Gastrocnemius or Calf Muscle
Flexes the leg and extends the foot.
Achilles Tendon
Attaches the gastrocnemius and the sartorious, which flexes and adduts the leg into a cross legged position.
Extrinsic Foot Muscles
Located in the leg but pull on tendons tha move bones in the ankle and foot. Permit dorsiflexion (backward movement at the ankle), plantar flexion (movement toward the toes), inversion (turn inward), and eversion (turn outward) of the foot.
Intrinsic Foot Muscles
Produce flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction of the toes.
