During the preliminary task, what hardware did I learn to use and what were my group and I required to use in the sequence?

During the preliminary task, my knowledge on camera work increased as I learnt how to use the basic filming equipment which included a digital camera and a tripod. We were required to use shot reverse shot, the 180 degree rule, match on action and dialogue within our preliminary task but unfortunately we broke the 180 degree rule first time filming so we had to re film this so we knew how to do it properly if we were to have used it in our opening scene.

Why was it difficult to compare the preliminary task to our opening scene?

Looking back at our preliminary task, it was difficult to compare it to our opening scene as there is no interaction with characters so we didn’t use the 180 degree rule in our opening scene. We also didn’t use shot reverse shot either but we did use match on action shots throughout the entire opening scene to improve the sequences continuity. The preliminary task improved my confidence when filming and editing the match on action shots but also my confidence to include dialogue.

Why wasn't the quality of sound in the preliminary task as good as that in the opening scene?

The diegetic dialogue in our preliminary task isn’t as clear as the diegetic dialogue in our opening scene however the use of dialogue in the preliminary task did improve my confidence to include it on our opening scene. This is because during the process of creating the preliminary task, I learnt that, without using a boom to film dialogue, the camera needs to be closer to the actor for the volume to be louder. Therefore, as we didn’t use a boom for our opening scene, we put the camera closer to the actor creating a mid-shot rather than a long shot of Agent Boyer in the normality scene capturing the sound. We also learnt how to increase the volume of the dialogue whilst editing as we had a diegetic sound track over the sequence which made it difficult to hear the dialogue. We didn’t have this problem in the preliminary task as we didn’t put a sound track over the top.
