Allegory
A story with two meanings, a literal meaning and a symbolic meaning
Alliteration
Repetition of initial consonant sounds (initial alliteration=beginning of words, internal/hidden alliteration=within words) used to please the ear and emphasize the words in which it occurs
Allusion
A reference to a person, a place/event, or a literary work that a writer expects the reader to recognize and respond to. Usually drawn from history, geography, literature, religion, or myths
Analogy
A comparison made between two things to show the similarities between them, often used for illustration ( to explain something unfamiliar by comparing it to something familiar) , or for arguments (to show that what is true for one is true for the other)
