Alliteration
repetition of the same or very similar consonant sounds in words.
ex: Blue Bunny, Kevin Colber ( same sounds but dif. letter still = alliteration.)
Allusion
reference to a statement, person, place, event from literature or history, religion, mythology, politics, sports, science or pop culture.
Analogy
Comparison made between two things to show how they are alike in some respects.
Apostrophe
NOT the punctuation sign. It is the act of addressing some abstraction or personification that is not physically present. ex: death, please come & take me!
Assonance
repetition of similar vowel sounds that are followed by different consonant sounds, especially in words that are close together in a poem. ex: cat, bat, black, tap or sew, slow (dif. vowel but same sound still = assonance)
Comedy
in general a story that ends happily and character who averts disaster and has a happy ending.
Connotation
all the meanings, associations or emotions that a word suggests.
Consonance
a special type of alliteration in which the repeated patter of consonants mark the changes in sound. ex: rider, reader, raider, ruder
