refers not to written, but to oral traditions, which includes different types of epic, poetry and drama, folktales, ballads, legends, jokes, and other genres of folklore. It exists in every society, whether literate or not. It is generally studied by folklorists, or by scholars committed to cultural studies and ethnopoetics, including linguists, anthropologists, and even sociologists.
Oral literature
literally "god from the machine")[1] is a god brought on the stage by a mechanical device[2] or, by extension, 'an improbable contrivance in a story characterized by a sudden unexpected solution to a seemingly intractable problem'.
deus ex machina
consists of a series of events that follow the climax of a drama or narrative, and thus serves as the conclusion of the story.
denouement
is a novel written as a series of documents. The usual form is letters, although diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documents are sometimes used.
epistolary novel
is a popular subgenre of prose fiction which is usually satirical and depicts in realistic and often humorous detail the adventures of a roguish hero of low social class who lives by his or her wits in a corrupt society.
picaresque novel
is a genre of literature that combines elements of both horror and romance.
Gothic fiction
is a work of prose fiction which places more than the usual amount of emphasis on interior characterization, and on the motives, circumstances, and internal action which springs from, and develops, external action.
