Generating Lightning?

Frozen water and ice move around on the inside of the cloud, causing friction and making an electrical charge. When this charge is discharged, it becomes lightning.

Discharging Lightning?

After some time, the electrical charge/force builds before releasing and causing lightning. Once lightning has been discharged, it is released as a plasma channel in the air.

Lightning Voltage?

According to National Geographic, each lightning bolt carries up to 1 billion volts of lightning! The voltage corresponds to its length.

Lightning Striking Twice In The Same Spot!?

In theory, lightning can potentially strike twice in the same spot, but it's not very likely. Whether it be the same thunderstorm or years and years later, lightning can strike the same spot. One unlucky man was struck a total of 7 times during his life! How unlucky is that! On the bright side, he survived all of the strikes.

Where Is It Likely To Strike?

The common conception is that lightning is more likely to strike materials like metal or with a similar composition, but this is technically incorrect. Being near metal although may be more dangerous if lightning is to strike but there is no increase in the chances of it striking a metal pole, compared to something like a tree.

Outside In A Lightning Storm?

Do not stand near tall structure such as trees, or anything metal as this could increase the danger of you being struck. Remember, statistics show that you have a one in 12,000 chance of being struck! Although if it is an option, the first thing you should do is go inside or find shelter to decrease these chances.
