What is an optical device?

Any sort of device that helps us see things that we can't see with our naked eye.

(also things that help us see better if our eyes are damaged)

What are some examples of optical devices?

Telescopes, Binoculars, Microscopes, sattelites, x-rays, refracting telescope, refracting telescope and glasses to name a few

How many types of artificial lights are there?

There are 4 different types of artificial light sources:

-Incandescent

-Phosphorous

-Florescent

-Chemiluminescence

What is the law of reflection?

Light reflected on a surface will reflect back at the exact same angle it was shone.

What are the properties of light?

-Light travels in straight lines

-Light can be reflected

-Light can bend

-Light is a form of visible energy

what does opaque mean?

something that light cannot pass though. ex: a mundane rock, wood, or animal

what does translucent mean?

Something that only a limited amount of light can pass through. ex: most crystals, leaves, or sea glass

what does transparent mean?

something that all light can pass though. Ex: some crystals or clear water

what is bioluminescence?

When an organism creates it's own light through tiny things called Photophores

what is a concave lens shaped like? what does it do to the image you are looking at?

what is an angle of incidence?

the angle of light that is from a source before it is reflected

what is an angle of reflection?

the angle of light that is reflected off of a surface.

what is the difference between regular and diffuse reflection?

Regular: a ray of light is shone onto a smooth surface and reflected off at a predictable angle.

Diffuse: a ray of light is shone onto a rough/bumpy/wavy surface and reflected back at unpredictable angles, kind of.

What is 'Normal'?

A line perpendicular to the mirror at the point of reflection
