Ligaments of the hip |
iliofemoral ligament, pubofemoral ligament ,ischiofemoral ligament ,iliotibial band, and inguinal ligament

Iliofemoral ligament
|
most important ligament, limits extension and hyper extension of the hip, known as the "Y" ligament or ligament of bigelow. It re-enforces the hip joint capsule anteriorly. Attaches to the A.S.I.S., splits in to 2 then attaches to the inter tro canteric line of the femur

Pubofemoral ligament
|
Limits abduction and hyper extension of the hip, spans the hip joint medially and inferiorly, attaches from medial part of acetabular rim andsuperior ramus of pubis

Ischiofemoral ligament |
Limits hyper extension and medial rotation of the hip, covers the hip capsule posteriorly, attaches on the ischial portion of the acetabulum, crossesthe joint laterally and superiorly, then attaches on the femoral neck |

Inguinal ligament |
separates the abdominal wall from the thigh. No function at the hip |

Anterior sacroilliac ligament |
broad and flat, on the anterior pelvic surface,connects the ala and pelvic surface of the sacrum, to the auricular surface of the ilium. Holds together the anterior portion |

Interoseous sacroiliac ligament
|
The deepest, shortest and strongest. Fills roughened area above and behind auricular surfaces. Connects tuberosities of the ilium and the sacrum

Short posterior sacroiliac ligament
|
runs more obliquely between the ilium and the upper portion of the sacrum onthe dorsal surface
|
|
Long posterior sacroiliac ligament
|
runs vertically between the posterior superior iliac spine and the lower portion of the sacrum
|
|
sacrotuberous ligament
|
very strong,triangular shaped, runs from between P. S. I. S and P.I.I.S. of the ilium. Attaches on the ischial tuberosity. Serves as an attachment for the gluteus maximus. Prevents forward rotation of the sacrum
|

Sacrospinous ligament
|
triangular shaped. Lies deep to the sacrotuberous ligament. Broad attachment from lower lateral sacrum and coccyx on the posterior side. Then narrows and attaches to the spine of the ischium. |

illiolumbar ligament |
help holds the lumbosacral joint together, attaches on the transverse processes of L5 and runs laterally to the inner lip of the posterior portion of the iliac crest. Limits rotation of L5 on S1 and assists in preventing L5 from moving anteriorly on S1 |

Lumbosacral ligament |
attaches on the transvers process of L5, runs inferiorly and laterally to attach on the ala of the sacrum |
