Strake-
a "seam" running longitudinally along the lingth of the hull
Garboard Strake-
the first strake from the keel of the lifeboat or ship for that matter
Turn of the Bilge:
where the hull starts to curve upward from the keel
Grab Rails-
located at ot near the turn of the bilge
Sheer/Top Strake-
the strake directly under the gunwale
Lifeline-
-attached at or near the sheer strake
-must be equivalent in strength to 3/8 manila and be 3 bights long
Doubler Plating-
provided where the hull comes into contact with the davit arm and acts as "chafing gear" as the boat rides in the davits
Gudgeons-
-part of the rudder seating apparatus
-female part of the rudder
Pintles-
the "male" part of the rudder seating arrangement
Bilge-
the very bottom of the inside of the boat where the drain and drain cap are located
Footings-
designed in such a manner as to be removable for painting or other types of mainenance work and are placed on top of the floor
Brackets-
provided to stiffen the side benches and thwarts
Stanchions-
provided beneath the thwarts to help support the weight
