students at independent schools or grammar schools often get better GCSE and A level grades. This dramatically increases chances of going to uni and successful employment opportunities.

lgbtq+people face significant barriers to life chances. homophobic discrimination is often very personalized discrimination carried out on often young people.

issue of ethnicity and life chances is complex. minority ethnic groups may have been disadvantage financially due to migration, but some ethnic groups experience greater social mobility than their white counterparts which is thought to be due to educational achievement.

structural model- causes are beyond control of the individual. poverty is due to societies reluctance to help solve the problem.
