What is a BM in Music Education?

Insane! It can be instrumental or vocal, prepares students for classroom music instruction. Either concentration (inst. or vocal) requires a secondary education minor and 128 hours without electives.
Does a Bachelor of Music require a foreign language.

No, with two exceptions:


1. Piano and organ performance requires 6hr of language proficiency.


2. Vocal requires 6 hours in a primary language and 3 in a secondary language.


The languages must be: Italian, German or French

In what areas are the Music Performance degrees available?

1. Brass

Why would a student get a major in Theory and Composition?

The will have their music performed and master the essential building blocks of traditional western composition. This is not the same as commercial songwriting.

How does a BM Music Industry degree apply to a career?
It is the most flexible program in the school of music and focuses on musical training first, not solely on the commercial aspects of the entertainment industry. It is a good fit for those who wish to function as independent artists.
What are the minors for a BM in Music Industry?

The Music Industry (general) program requires 2 minors, one of which must be RIM or Entrepreneurship.
What features do all music Degrees share?


1. a formal audition is required.


2. a senior recital is required


3. a student must pass the UD jury to complete the degree program.


4. all degrees require the Music Core Courses


5. all students must pass the piano proficiency before graduation.


6. Theory placement test are administered during audition and Customs.


7. Scholarships are available for both music and non music majors, awarded through auditions.


8. Because Music is a highly prescribed program, double majors are difficult and unlikely to be completed in 4 years. Also, study abroad is usually only feasible during summer and winter breaks rather than as a course of study in a regular semester.

What is the difference between Music Industry and Music Business.

Music Industry is a liberal arts program. Music business is an Electronic Media program. Music Business does not require an audition and focuses on the economic side of music (copyright law, contracts...) rather than the performing side. Music Business is designed for working in the business of music rather than in performing.
What requirement distinguishes a MB degree program?

All music degrees require continuous enrollemtn in applied lessons (MUAP) in order to complete in 4 years. The MUAP is rarely waived.
