What is the life structure?
A basic pattern of an adult's life at a particular time and reflects the choices the person makes
What is involved in the adult life cycle?
Alternate between stability, turmoil, and transitions and the transitions between one period and the next are particularly stressful
What is Early Adult Transition?
Age 17 to 22
Leaving the world of childhood and forming the initial foundation for life in the adult world.
Tasks include becoming independent from one's parents and getting involved in college/military/etc
Leads to the formation of "The Dream" or image of life that guides decisions and choices
What is Age 30 Transition?
Age 28 to 33
Realization that life structure built during 20s is not adequate
A sense of urgency develops as a result of pressure to fully enter the adult world
Followed by a period of "settling down"
What is Midlife Transition?
Age 40 to 45
Time of significant stress and reorganization (midlife crisis)
An important change is a deflation of The Dream as one realizes that one's goals are not satisfying and/or will not be fully accomplished
