An abnormal erythrocyte that in wet preparations has cytoplasmic projections so that the cell appears
to be covered with thorns.
Allostery
in bacteria, alteration of a regulatory site on a protein that changes its shape and activity. This change
is important in altering the way the organism responds to its molecular environment.
Analgesic
A drug that relieves pain.
Analgia
State of being without pain.
-osis*
Suffix: indicates an abnormal condition: neurosis, psychosis.
Affixed to a combining form: indicates an organ or a part of the body, usually indicates a noninflammatory diseased condition; nephrosis, endometriosis.

*There are a few words ending in -osis that have a special meaning.
cyt-
Combining form: (cell) means an abnormal increase in number of the type of cell indicated; leukocytosis, erythrocytosis
