Explain how adaptive radiation works:
Emergence of numerous species from a common ancestor introduced an environment that presents them with new problems & opportunities. This creates new, different sets of natural selection conditions.
Explain how sympatric speciation via polyploidy:
Sympatric speciation results in a mess up of meiosis: Polyploidy will result when there are multiple chromosomes in the gametes.
Sympatric Speciation:
Differentiation of 2 species in the same place: less common, mainly seen in plants.
Allopatric Speciation:
2 different placts: 2 geographically isolated areas.
Explain how each of the different postzygotic RIMS fuctions to impede gene flow:
Reduced Hybrid Viability: Cannot resist disease, can't make it to adulthood.
Reduced Hybrid Fertility: Strong, tough, but does not produce gametes.
Hybrid BReakdown: f1 generation hybrid being fertile & reproducing, but in the f2 it all falls apart. Does not reproduce.
