What is a Genome
All the genetics information in a cells DNA
Genetic information is?..
DNA and RNA
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribonucleic acid
what does RNa stand for?
Ribonucleic acid
How many carbons does RNA have?DNA?-how do they differ?
RNA is a 5carbon sugar, so is DNA except DNA is missing an OH group
Describe DNA
Very long thin molecule used as a code for cells to construct proteins.
Where can DNA be found?
For a Eukaryotic cell it can be found in the nucleus and mitochondria. For a Prokaryotic cell it is located in the nucleic region.
What are genes?
Genes are segments of DNA
What do ribosomes do with DNA codes?
They read the code and then are able to bond the amino acids together in the correct order.
What are all the structure parts that make up DNA?
1.Deoxyribose sugars
2.Phosphate groups(PO4) 3.4 diff. bases: -Adenine -Guanine -Thymine -Cytosine |
What do ribosomes do with DNA codes?
They read the code and then are able to bond the amino acids together in the correct order.
Would you say DNA is parallel?
No DNA is antiparallel, with a 5'-3' end
How does Adenine and Thymine pair together?
A-T pair using 2 hydrogen bonds
How many hydrogen bonds does it take for cytosine and guanine to pair up?
three
How is the DNA in Prokaryotic cells shaped?
Only One circular DNA molecule
How are Eukaryotic DNA composed?
In eukaryotic cells DNA molecules are linear and are divided into multiple segments called chromosomes.
Name all the structural parts of RNA
RNA unlike DNA is SINGLE stranded. It has 6 pts.:
1. Ribose sugar 2. phosphate group 3.and 4 diff. bases: -Guanine -Cytosine -Adenine -Uracil |
What are the 3 different kinds of RNA molecules?
1. mRNA;messinger RNA
2. tRNA;transfer RNA 3. rRNA; ribosomal RNA |
How is mRNA made?
DNA is copied
What is mRNA's job?
Take copy of coded info frm DNA and deliver to ribosome so it can be made into protein
WHere is rRNA located?
rRNA is located inside a ribosome
What does tRNA do?
It is the translation tool that decodes mRNA and creates a protein.
What is a charged tRNA?
A charged tRNA means that an amino acid is attached to the top of it, theres a diff tRNA for each amino acid.(total 20)
What is an anticodon and where can it be found?
An anticodon can be found at the bottom of a tRNA and is 3 bases long and attaches to a corresponding sequence on the mRNA.Theres a fifferent anticodon for each amino acid.
