Forecast
Project trends and needs which the facility management must meet in the future
Plan
Deciding what needs to be done and makes a set of plans to accomplish it
Budget
Project cost and establishes categories with dollar amounts for each
Organize
Once a plan has been made, decide how to structure a suitable organization to implement the plan and put it into action.
This will include the number of people need for the staff and the materials with which to build or to work.
Staffs
Attempts to find the right person for each defined job
Direct
Provide direction though communication to each employee, who thereby learns what is expected
Preliminary training and ongoing supervision
Evaluate
Judges the extent to which the organization is accomplishing its goals
Controls Quality
Take steps to assure that the goals are accomplished and that each job is done as planned
Innovate
Leads the staff to develop new ideas that enable the facility to enhance its attractiveness to the community served
Market
Assures that the facility successfully attracts and admits {to the extent feasible} the person it seeks to serve
Upper-Level Management
Responsible for overall functioning of the facility, normally interacting directly with the board of directors and/or owners and multiple inspectors.
This person (persons) is responsible for formulating policies that will be applied to the entire facility. The NHA is an example of Upper-Level Management.
Middle-Level Management
Interfaces with upper-level and lower-level managers however normally does not make policies affecting the entire facility.
Does however make decisions on policies for managers responsible to her/him.
Lower-level Management
Direct supervisory responsibilities for the staff who do the actual work
i.e. The nurses aide who physically takes care of the residents
Line Authority
A person who is empowered by the administrator to make decisions for the organization has....
A Line Position
Manager empowered to make decisions on behalf of the administrator
i.e. the director of nursing
A Staff Position
Advisory role with no decision making power
i.e. an accountant in a business office
Leading By Walking Around-LBWA
Allows the administrator to assure him/herself that facility resources and finances are successfully being used to best meet the needs of the residents
This is a part of the quality assurance process set by the facility, corporate, and payers such as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
