Delayed Conditioning |
The CS must come before the UCS. |
Trace Conditioning |
The CS is presented and then a period of time passes before the UCS is presented. This gap in time is referred to as an interstimulus interval. |
Simultaneous Conditioning |
When the CS is presented at the same time as the UCS. (Not effective) |
Backward Conditioning |
When the CS is presented after the UCS. (not effective) |
The difference between extinction and forgetting: |
Extinction occurs when the US is removed but there is repeated presentation of the CS; involves learning. Forgetting occurs when ONLY the passage of time decreases a behavior
Reacquisition |
Relearning a response after it was extinguished. |
Spontaneous recovery |
After extinction, if the CS is presented alone it will produce a weak CR.
Name 3 variables that can affect classical conditioning |
1. Nature of the CS-US pairing 2. Number of CS-US pairings 3. The Decelerating Function (The CS will reach a maximum and then stay there unless extinction or forgetting occurs) |
