An effective leader helps achieve goals; an ineffective leader doesn't

Formal leaders

Member of an organization whose given authority by the organization to influence other organizational members to achieve organizational goal



Power to control and make the best use of company resources like money and capital and the abilities and skills of its employees

Informal leaders

No legal authority to influence but their personal skills and qualities give them the ability to exert influence in organization


Sometimes have as much influence as formal leaders

Leader trait: intelligence

Helps leader solve complex problems

Leader Trait: Task Relevant knowledge

Ensure that leader knows what has to be done, how it should be done, and what resources are required for a group and organization to achieve its goals

Consideration

Behavior indicating that a leader trust, respects and values good relationships with his or her followers

Initiating structure

Behaviors that a leader engages in to make sure that work gets done and subordinates perform their jobs acceptably
