The introduction of the printing press by William Caxton in England.

Jonathan Swift proposed an academy to fix and standardise the English language. He was a fan of the frozen Latinate languages.

Samuel Johnson - one of first dictionaries, 7 years to write, 43,000 entries, received praise from Italian & French Academies.
