What are the four types of units that language comprises of?

1) Phonology

Do animals use language?

No. They communicate but it is too basic to be language

Define phonolgy.

The structure of sounds of the words of the language. The sounds of languages are build from sets of phonemes.

Defibe syntax.

Rules for how words in a sentence should be structured.

Define aphasia.

A person with brain damage that affects their language abilities .

Define semantics.

The meaning of a word or sentence.

Define morpheme.

Base unit of semantics. The smallest unit of meaning in a language. E.g. walking, two morpheme, walk and presently occuring.

Define pragmatics.

Linguistics: Implied meaning not literal.



General : focused on the reality not an ideal.
