Mountain
A landmass that projects higher than it’s surroundings. A mountain is much higher than a hill
Valley
A long depression in the surface of the land that is normally surrounded by higher hills or mountains.
Plain
A large area of low flat land. The flat middle part of the United States is called the Great Plains.
Plateau
A relatively flat highland. A plateau can be as small as a football field or as large as several states.
Canyon
A deep narrow valley with steep sides. A canyon often has a river or stream at the bottom.
Surface Water
Water that stays on
top of the earth.
Ground Water
Water that soaks into the ground.     
River
A large, natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea.
Waste Water
Water that has been used and needs to be filtered and cleaned before it can be used again.
Landform
A landform is any natural formation of rock and dirt, found on earth.
Oxbow Lake
A crescent shaped body of water ( think of a crescent moon shape.)  
Meander
A looping change in direction in a river or stream.
Tributary
A river or stream that does not reach the ocean.
