Competition for land

In rural areas, most other land users tend to be in conflict with:

Farming

Why:

Because farming requires large areas of land, and other users limit the land available, eg settlement - cities grow larger, also industry, forestry and reservoirs take up land area

Some land uses are in direct conflict:

Agriculture and tourism, or land use that produces pollution, litter, noise, chemicals, hence industry, settlement, communications conflict with agriculture

Reasons why tourism conflicts with other users:

Tourists need facilities like roads, cafes, etc. Road congestion and traffic fumes can affect natural vegetation and disturb the peace

Soil erosion, litter, trespassing, leaving gates open, dogs worrying sheep, pollution of rivers and lakes
