Define Bearers

A bearer is a means of transferring information signals between network interfaces. They are:

Fibre

KVH tracephone

Fleet bb

3g

WIFU

Define FAS

Fabric attached storage. A 2TB raid drive configuration for DIXS networks. Located in TELEX. A DRFAS is used to back up the FAS in case of failure. It takes a snapshot of the FAS every 20 minutes and stores it on the DRFAS.

Define fibre backbone.

A fibre cable between TELEX and CTO.

Define the firewall

Essentially a programmable filter. Enables maintainers to limit what comes in and goes out of the network.

Define media converter.

Converts fibre connection into ethernet.

Define servers (ESX)

There are two on te mana which act as a computer running the virtual servers on board. The are 6 virtual servers on board.

What are the six virtual servers on ESX.

Active domain controller 01

Active domain controller 02

Mail transfer agent

Database server

Applications server 01

Applications server 02

Define switches

These direct traffic from one station to the next. There are two on Te Mana, an ethernet and fibre switch.

Define the routers

A router at its most basic connects separate servers together. There are two on Te Mana, the MIPN and gateway router.

Define UPS

The uninterruptable power supply is a device that provides continuous stable power to all equipment connected to it.

Define WAN optimiser

This increases the efficiency of data transfers accross the WAN.

Define Workstations

There are 64 on board Te Mana and 5 laptops. This is where users can log in to their profiles and send emails etc.
