When shall ladders be inspected?
Before and after each use.
What do you inspect on a ladder?
a. rung tightness
b. bolt and rivet tightness
c. check welds for defects
d. beams for cracks, breaks, gouges of deformation, etc.
e. condition of halyard and pulley.
f. after subject to overloading.
g. after subject to unusual. condition.
h. exposed to direct flame
i. when water sizzles or turns to steam when it comes in contact with a ladder.
j. heat sensors-check heat sensor label before and after each use. if heat sensor label turns black, remove ladder from service, following replacement S.O.P.
k. check heat sensor label to ensure expiration date is current, if not contact the Functional Supervisor.
l. wear sleeves.
What do you use to lubricate the ladder?
Tri flow, silicone or spray wax. use spray wax where there is contact between rungs, guides and rails, particularly in the fly sections. Put wax on the bottom side of lock fingers to allow them to slide easily over the rungs.
What to use when cleaning ladder?
use only mild detergent to wash ladder. It is permissible to use brake spray cleaner on stubborn, oily greasy areas. Once the ladder has been inspected and cleaned, apply a spray wax (Turtle Zip) to all parts of the ladder following instructions for application.
What is the breaking strength of the continuous halyard?
825 pounds.
