Erythrocyte
Red Blood Cell
RBC
Red Blood Cells - Cells that deliver oxygen throughout the body and make blood look red. A low RBC can indicate anemia, which can lead to fatigue
Normal Range: Male - 4.6 - 6.0 Female - 4.0 - 5.0 |
HGB
Hemoglobin - a protein used by RBC to distribute oxygen to other tissues and cells in the body. Low levels indicate anemia.
Normal Range: Male - 13.5 - 18 Female - 12 - 16 |
HCT
Hematocrit - percent of blood that is occupied by red blood cells. Good indicator of anemia.
Normal Range: Male - 40% - 51% Female - 36% - 49% |
MCV
Mean Corpuscular Volume - measures the size of RBC. Larger or smaller than normal RBC may indicate anemia.
Normal Range: 80 - 97 |
MCH
Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin - measures the average amount of haemoglobin (the oxygen carrying element in RBC) in a RBC (erythtocyte)
Normal Range: 26 - 34 |
RDW
Red Blood Cell Distribution Width - measures the varying sizes or RBC volume in a blood sample
Normal Range: <14.5 |
Thrombocytopenia
Decreased platelet count:
<150,000 (mm3) |
Platelet Count
Platelets are cells produced by the bone marrow to help blood clot in order to stop bleeding from injury.
Normal Range: 150,000 - 400,000 (mm3) |
Leukocyte
White Blood Cell
Neutropenia
Decreased WBC count
WBC
White blood cells - measures the amount of WBC. These immune cells form in the bone marrow to help fight infection. High levels may indicate infection. Low levels may result from treatment or disease
Normal Range: 4,500 - 10,000 (mm3) |
5 Types of WBC
Neutrophils (aka Segs), Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, and Basophils
WBC Points of Action
Neutrophils = Bacteria
Lymphocytes = Virus Monocytes = Debris (indicating recovery) Eosinophils = Allergens, parasites Basophils = Unknown (maybe inflammation or allergen) |
