What is the parietal pericardium?

Lines the pericardial sac.

Fibrous connective tissue- dense irregular

Mesothelium- consists of simple squamos

Areolar tissue- consists of loose connective

What is the visceral pericardium?

Covers the surface of the heart

Mesothelium

Areolar tissue

3 Layers of the heart wall?

Epicardium(Visceral pericardium)

MyoCardium- Middle layer that is composed of cardiac muscle tissue.

Endocardium- lines inside of myocardium, covers the heart valves and tendons

Major structures of the heart?

Base

Apex

Coronary Sulcus

What does the right atrium do?

Receives deoxygenated blood from superior and inferior vena cavae.

Features of the right atrium?

Interatial septum- separates two atria

Foramen ovale- opening in septum during fetal development.

Fossa Ovalis- Small depression in septum after birth

Pectinate muscles- muscles in anterior atrial wall

Auricles- Expendable sections in both atria

What does the left atrium do?

pumps oxygenated blood from two left and two right pulmonary veins

What is the function of the right ventricle?

Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

Features of the right ventricle?

Interventricular septum- wall separating two ventricles.

TRabeculae Carneae- Rigged inner surface of both ventricles.

Chordae tendinae- Tendons that attach each cusp of the valves to the paillary muscles.

Papillary muscles- muscles in the ventricles that contract to tighten chordae tendinae to limit movement of valves and cusps

Function of the left ventricle?

thicker ventricle that pumps oxygenated blood through the systemic circuit.

4 valves of the heart?

Right atrioventricular valve- tricuspid valve

Left atrioventricular valve - bicuspid valve or mitral

Pulmonary semilunar valve

Aortic semilunar valve

Purpose of the superior and inferior vena cava?

Carry deoxygenated blood from systemic circulation to right atrium

Purpose of coronary sinus?

vein that lies in the coronary sulcus which carries deoxygenated blood from coronary circulation to the right atrium

Purpose of Aorta?

carries oxygenated blood from left ventricle to the systemic circulation.

3 parts of Aorta?

AScending Aorta

Aortic Arch

Descending aorta

Where is the posterior interventricular artery located?

lies within the posterior interventricular sulcus
