Stratified Squamous Epithelium - line the esophagus, mouth, vagina and anus. Skin is also composed of these cells.

Blood - found blood vessels.

Contains: Erythrocytes aka Red Blood Cells and Leucocytes aka White Blood Cells. Function: transport nutrients, waste and respiratory gasses

Hyaline Cartilage - Connects sternum and ribs, makes up "c" rings of esophagus, at the end of long bones and in the nose and chin.

Contains: Chondrocytes (found in Lacunae) which secretes gel like substance called Extracellular Matrix (ECM). The ECM makes up the majority of cartilage.

Function: Reduces friction and protects bones.

Osseous Tissue aka Bone - found in the skeleton (bones) of the body.

Contains: Immature bone cells aka Osteoblasts which develop bone and Osteocytes (found in Lacunae within bone/collagen matrix) which maintain bone. Concentric rings surround the central canal where nutrients and waste are transported.

Function: provide structure and protection

Adipose Tissue aka Fat - found around Kidneys, behind eyeballs and fat deposit sites like the abdomen and hips.

Contains: triglycerides used for energy storage

Function: Shock absorber, insulation and energy storage

Smooth Muscle Tissue (involuntary) - found hollow organs (other than the heart) that change shape regularly.

Contains: contractive proteins Actin and Myosin

Function: contracts and twists to move material inside organ.

Cardiac Muscle Tissue (involuntary) - found in the heart specifically Myocardium

Contains: Contractive proteins Actin and Myosin, specialized plasma membrane protein called an intercalated disc.

Function: contract as a unit which helps move blood through the blood vessels of the body.

Skeletal Muscle Tissue (voluntary) - attached to skeleton.

Contains: Bands made of Contractive proteins Actin and Myosin.

Function: expands and contracts to control body movement.
