Although a character has worked hard to probe his or her worth. He/she undergoes a seemingly overnight change in status from property to wealth.

Typically bargains are made in times of desperation. The person who makes a bargain usually pays much more than the bargained for item or work is worth

As both of these come out of the French tradition and were originally told by French aristocratic women. They reflect the fears that women felt going into arranged marriages that the man chosen for a woman might truly be a monster or the relied when he proves himself worthy
