What is ORC format?
O - Opinion statment
R - Refrence
C - Comment or closing statment
In ORC what does O mean?
It stands for opinion statment and it is where you tell what the paragraph will be about. It has to be supportable and not a fact.
In ORC what does R mean?
It stands for reference. It has to support the opinion statement. If you put something in there that is from a book then you have to have specific quotation.

The readings consist of one excerpt from a modern drama (play), one newspaper article, and one poem.
Modern Drama – 14 Questions: Mainly comprehension with some vocabulary in context
Newspaper Article – 8 Questions: Same as above
Poem – 4 Questions: Comprehension with one basic poetic devices question
Grammar – 9 Questions: Nouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Pronouns

Using any of the texts that we have studied this year, answer the following question in essay style. You will have a choice of two different topics for this essay. You will need to have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion to you essay. It must include proper paragraphs (In ORC) and transitions.

Possible texts: The Pearl, Twelfth Night, Short Stories, Poetry

what are the sentence types - simple sentences?
- Independent clause - A subject, a predicate, and is a complete thought.
- Compound sentence – two independent clauses joined by a conjunction or a semi colons
- Ex: that marker is black and it writes on the board. If you replace the and with a semi colon then it will work. Ex – That marker is black; it writes on the board.

- Complex sentence – an independent clause joined with a dependent clause.
- Ex: although the sky is blue, you can’t always see it.
what is a compound scentence?
- Compound- complex sentence: two independent clauses joined with a dependent clause.
- Ex – Since my birthday, I have played with my toys and I have broken them all.
what is a noun?
- Noun – person, place, thing, or idea
- Ex.: person – Mr. Petersen; it’s a proper noun
- Ex. Place – New York; it is another proper noun
- Ex. Thing – a watch
- Ex. Idea – happiness – this is something that you can’t experience with: see, feel, smell, taste, and hear
what is a verb?
- Verb: action or a state of being
- Action: punching
- State of being: is, was, were, will be, would be
what is an adverb?
- Adverbs:
- Modifies or describes a verb
- Usually ends in ‘-ly’
- Ex: completely, audaciously, etc...(that’s not one of them)

- Adjectives:
- Describes or modifies a noun
- Ex. Smelly, red, yellow, ugly, short, tall
what is a preposition?
- Prepositions:
- Indicates the position or relation of the subject to other things in the sentence
- Words that indicate position: beside, over, under, on, to, etc...
what is a conjuction?
- Conjunctions:
- They connect words, phrases, and clauses
- Ex: the cat ran over the hill and drank a glass of milk.
