middle deltoid
1. sitting facing the examiner with arm relaxed to the side
O: acromian process I: deltoid tuberosity palpate: approximately 2 inches distal to the acromian process on the lateral aspect of the humerus pt: abduct your arm (concentric), adduct your arm (eccentric) |
posterior deltoid
1.sitting facing away from the examiner, arm relaxed to the side
O:spine of the scapula I: deltoid tuberosity palpate:on the posterior of the shoulder jt pt: raise your arm to the side and back (concentric), back to lateral and adduct (eccentric) |
supraspinatus
1.sitting facing away from the examiner with the arm relaxed at the side
O:supraspinous fossa I: superior facet of the greater tubercle palpate: the muscle is deep to the trapezius, the muscle belly is along the supraspinous fossa pt: abduct your arm(concentric) ,adduct arm (eccentric) |
coracobrachialis
1. sitting facing the examiner with arm relaxed
O: coracoid process I: medial surface of the humerus , midshaft palpate: place the persons hand on there hip, while the person isometrically adducts the shoulder jt, palpate on the anterior medial surface of the proximal humerus. or palpate the origin on the coracoid process pt:hand on hip, press hand in (concentric) left go of pressure (eccentric) |
latissimus dorsi
1. pt lays prone with arm medially rotated to the side
O: sp of T7-L5, posterior surface of sacrum, iliac crest, and lower three ribs I:medial floor of the bicipital groove of the humerus palpate: on the side of the thorax while giving resistance to shoulder adduction/ extension pt: extend your shoulder as I resist you. or reach your hand on your lower back toward the opposite hip |
teres major
1. lie prone with arm medially rotated at the side
O: axillary border of the scapula near the inferior angle I:medial crest of the humerus palpate: prone, abduct the shoulder jt to 90 degrees with elbow flexed over the table so that the forearm is off the table and pronated. medially rotate the the shoulder jt , by raising the palm of the hand towards the ceiling. palpate the muscle belly. pt: place your hand on your lower back and reach to your opposite hip. |
infraspinatus
1. pt lies prone with the shoulder abducted to 90 degrees and the elbow is flexed over the table
O: infraspinous fossa of the scapula I: medial facets of the greater tubercle palpate: over the infraspinous below the spine of the scapula pt: raise the back of your hand towards the ceiling. external rotation |
teres minor
1. pt lies prone with the shoulder abducted to 90 degrees and the elbow is fixed over the table
O: axillary border of the scapula I: inferior facet of the greater tubercle palpate: origin along the axillary to the posterior shoulder jt pt: raise the back of your hand toward the ceiling |
subscapularis
1. lie supine with the arm at the side and elbow fixed to 90 degrees
O: anterior surface of the scapula along the sub scapular fossa I: lesser tubercle of the humerus palpate: put your fingers where this muscle belly will run pt:pull your hand to your abdomen while I resist this motion |
pec major (clavicular portion)
1. lie supine with the shoulder in 60 degrees of abduction
O:medial 1/3 of clavicle I: lateral lip of the bicipital groove palpate: run fingers just below the clavicle pt: raise your arm across your body towards the opposite shoulder |
pec major (sternal portion)
1. lie supine in 120 degrees of abduction
O: sternum and costal cartilage of the first 6 ribs I: lateral lip of the bicipital groove of the humerus palpate: at the origin to the bicipital groove pt: move your arm across your body towards the opposite hip |
