A finite resource is one that will run out eventually. Limited resource.

Flammable

Something that catches fire easily. Eg. Petrol.

A device, similar to a jog, used to hold or position a work piece for machining that is attached to a machine.

Forging

A method of shaping metal using compressiveforces.

Flow chart

A sequence of activities presented as a diagram.

Coal, oil and gas.

Flexible

Something that bends without breaking.

Granule

A small particle or grain, e.g. plastic can bebought in granules, which are then melted for moulding.

Galvanising

The process of coating steel with a thin layerof zinc to prevent corrosion.

Gases such as those produced by burning fossil fuels,which are linked to global warming.

Grain

The direction or patterns of fibres found inwood.

Hardwood

Hardwood comes from trees with broad leaves(mainly deciduous trees). It is usually denser and harder than softwood.

A potential danger to humans or the environment.

Impurities

Small amounts of other substances within themain substance.

Insulator

An electrical insulator is something that does not allow electricity to flow easily. Eg. Polythene. A thermal insulator doesn’t allow much heat to flow.

Inclusive

Meeting the needs of the widest possible rangeof users.

Injection Moulding

The process of making plastic parts by forcing liquid plastic into a mould and allowing it to solidify.
