It is the largest of the main 13 regions in Germany for quality wine , it lies on the left bank of the Rhine river between worms and bingen. It produces mainly white wine from riesling , muller-thurgau, and silvaner. Its also the home of liebfraumilch. In general the wines are best near the Rhine where the soils display more complexity of flavor. The taunus hills , odenwalt, and hunsruck mountains protect vineyards from harsh weather , giving it a mild climate compared from the rest of Germany , long growing seasons , with low precipitation , making it one of the driest regions of Germany. |
